Molokai Burger opened its doors in 2009 with a mission to serve fresh and delicious food while providing a clean and friendly environment for both residents and visitors on the beautiful island of Molokai. Started by Rodney and Kerrie Felt, Molokai Burger has become just that, a gathering place that continues to be a central part of the community in Kaunakakai.

Whether coming from the East End, West End, or center of the island, Molokai Burger’s central location at “Mile Marker Zero” is the perfect establishment serving a fresh mix of made to order burgers, chicken, fries, shakes, and local plates to the community.

Rod and Kerrie Felt were both born and raised in Northern Utah, ultimately settling in Salt Lake City where they raised their family and were heavily involved in both their church and community. They had visited Molokai on several occasions and ultimately felt a very strong pull towards the island.

Of course, the beauty of the island intrigued them, but even more was the love they naturally felt for the people of Molokai. They could easily see the respect people had for one another, but also the love and respect they had for the island itself.

The decision to leave their home, loved ones, and the life they knew in order to make Molokai their new home was not an easy one. But their love for the people and their desire to do what they felt was right helped them prepare for the move. Rod and Kerrie, along with their son Robert, moved to Molokai in May of 2004.

During the time they lived on Molokai and before they began to build Molokai Burger, they served alongside the residents of the island once again in their church and community. Their love for their new neighbors grew as they served and were served. They looked for more opportunities to contribute, especially to be able to serve the youth of the island. Eventually, they were able to begin building what would soon become Molokai Burger.

The doors opened on February 21st, 2009. Business was slow but grew steadily. Just when things seemed to be going smoothly, a fire burning much of Molokai Burger closed them down and left them with the decision to return to Utah or rebuild and continue to serve the people of Molokai.

Their answer came quickly as so many, even people they did not know, rallied around them, offering their time and help to rebuild Molokai Burger. With the support of so many, Molokai Burger was able to open its doors again later that same year.

Molokai Burger continues to be a place of community, where people can gather and talk story in a clean and air conditioned environment. Our made to order food is fresh and delicious. Additionally, Molokai Burger offers the service of Molokai’s only drive thru for those who want to grab breakfast, lunch, or dinner on their way home, on their way to work, or to one of the many beaches or parks along the south side of the island. In front of Molokai Burger sits the landmark “Mile Marker Zero”, giving proof that Molokai Burger is that the “Center of Molokai, Center of Hawaii, Center of the Pacific.”
